Registered Nurse - Band 5
We are looking for a enthusiastic and motivated individual to be part of the Pre Operative Assessment service in The Royal Gwent Hospital
The post holder will providing a comprehensive , effective , efficient assessment process for patients referred for inpatient, day case or specialist surgery . The nurse is responsible for maintaining accurate associated records at all times.
As a pre assessment nurse you will need to independently obtain a comprehensive medical and nursing history, instigate relevant investigations and perform a physical examinations as appropriate. It is essential that you have excellent communication skills in order to provide pre operative information and health education
To be responsible for giving specialist clinical advice to patients without direct supervision, ensuring they receive information on how they can optimise their heath pre-operatively.
The main duties of the role involve the day to day running of the clinics, liaising with other department, stakeholders and multi disciplinary services
Demonstrating politeness, courtesy, and sensitivity in providing compassionate care for patients, visitors/relatives and colleagues ensuring that all patients have appropriate individualised, clinical assessments. These may include taking of base line observations, performing ECG’s and a level of phlebotomy skills and swabbing.
This post is fixed term/secondment for 2 years to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

To be responsible for their individual caseload of pre-assessment patients ensuring they meet individual patient and client needs ensuring that all patients have appropriate individualised, clinical assessments.
To work independently and without direct supervision after completing recognised competencies.
To be committed to assuring the quality of care delivered is monitoring &
evaluated.
To be aware of and demonstrate practice based on current advances within
nursing.
To act as an advocate for patients and their significant others.
To maintain accurate records/standards for documentation including IT, data collection and input.
To act as resource for junior members of the team.
To liaise and communicate effectively with members of the multidisciplinary team.
Participate in audit for the department.
Give written and verbal advice/teaching to patients and carer
