The emergency department is an area of nursing practice that requires specialized training. This position is a special opportunity for nurses without critical care (emergency) experience. An Orientation Program will be provided to successful applicants who do not have past emergency experience, and a two (2) year commitment is required. Successful candidates will be required to commit to 3 months of Full-Time hours in order to complete the Novice Nurse Program.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Minimum 6 months of recent medical/surgical exprience;
  • ACLS certification in progress and/or successful completion of a critical care or emergency nursing course;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and willingness to actively participate in departmental educational activities;
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to apply this process to the practice of Nursing;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient teaching;
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as an active member of the health care team;
  • Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, the public and colleagues;
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing;
  • Minimum 2 years of recent medical/surgical experience;
  • Post-graduate studies;
  • Proficiency in English and French- oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
