Job Description
Performs the functions of Registered Nurse in compliance with the standards of practice for Registered Nurse developed by the College of Nurses, and provides high quality nursing service that reflects the organization’s resident centred approach, vision and policies. As a Team Lead, the Registered Nurse will practice prudently in accordance with the “Three-Factor Framework – Client Factors, Nurse Factors and Environment Factors” outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Guideline – RN and RPN Practice: the Client, the Nurse and the Environment. As a Team Lead, the Registered Nurse is responsible for day to day supervision of RPNs in the unit and coordination of resident care with nursing and interdisciplinary team members as well as communications with families.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Competence in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Specialization in Gerontology an asset.
  • Previous experience in a long term care setting and staff supervision an asset.
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Good leadership skills
  • Proven clinical experience with a resident-centred care focus, from assessment, to care planning, education and documentation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality care and safety. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgement in assessing and prioritizing situations at hand, and multi-tasking different priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbally and in writing) and presentation skills to internal and external clients/residents
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interprofessional and interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to mentor and/or support colleagues and students
  • Computer literacy. Experience with RAI-MDS an asset
  • Ability to communicate in Chinese an asset

  • Considerable standing, walking, lifting and bending
  • Exposure to all resident care elements through regular resident contact
  • Shift work, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and short shifts
