Description:

To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development,
implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without direction and supervision.
Demonstrate and supervise practice and procedures to registered and unregistered nursing staff to secure effective nursing practice.
To take a key role in the induction and mentorship of new and unregistered staff, and provide supervision.
The Emergency and Acute Medicine Directorate (EAMD) is looking to recruit nurses who are enthusiastic, innovative and proactive to support the exciting development of our Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC), in line with the national drive towards a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) model.
MSDEC is an acute assessment and diagnostic area for ambulatory patients that is supported with Acute Physicians and Physicians Associates and Advanced Clinical Practitioners. It is also supported by an acute medicine Virtual Ward function, where patients can remain at home whilst receiving their acute episode of care. The MSDEC is a 7-day service, operating between the hours of 0900-2130.
We are looking for Registered Nurses with a confident approach to managing patients referred via Primary Care or the Emergency Unit (EU). Patients are triaged and assessed with urgent investigations and treatment being delivered as part of the SDEC approach or via the Virtual Ward.
EAMD sees in excess of 145,000 patients annually, with MSDEC seeing up to 2,500 of those attendances and up to 300 patients per month managed via the Virtual Ward. The unit works closely with the Assessment Unit which has 33 trolleys and sits behind the EU footprint. There are established working links with the EU, and you would be required to work closely with the nursing team to ensure the safe and smooth transition of patients through the EU into MSDEC.
As a registered nurse working within the wider EAMD you would be actively encouraged and supported to develop extended role skills such as venepuncture and cannulation, using patient group directives for medications as needed as well as completing the newly developed EAMD training programme. We are looking for dedicated ambitious nurses who want to work in a fast-paced acute medicine environment.
We have an active Transformation Programme within the EAMD which is facilitating new and effective ways to deliver high quality care to our patients.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
