BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Recent SDCU or surgical nursing experience;
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of surgical procedures, risks, responsibilities and legalities; associated with the ambulatory care surgical patient
  • Demonstrates commitment to participate in continuous quality improvement approaches to patient care;
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuing education and willingness to actively participate in departmental educational activities;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to apply this process to the practice of nursing;
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge and ability in patient teaching of inpatient surgical and ambulatory care surgical patients;
  • Demonstrates leadership and the ability to function independently;
  • Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, the public and colleagues;
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, multi tasking and decision making skills;
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently & effectively as an active member of the health care team;
  • Skilled user in a computer technology environment;
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing technology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Physical Assessment Course;
  • BSc.N.;
  • Current ACAO and OPANA membership;
  • Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
