Description:

Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centered care and high professional standards, the Registered Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, nursing diagnosis, integrated care plan development, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. The objective of the Registered Nurse is to provide safe and competent care through the application of nursing knowledge, the technical aspects of professional practice and the demonstration of compassion, professionalism and respect. The incumbent will perform all other relevant duties assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the unit to which s/he is assigned. The successful candidate’s home site will be the Site listed above and must be willing to work at two or more sites. In the event there are no qualified applicants, this posting will be used as a training opportunity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
o One year related clinical experience in the past three years in a critical care environment.
o Current BCLS and ACLS certification.
o Critical Care Certificate and or Critical Care Designation(CNA).
o Controlled acts authorized to nursing in the critical care setting and/or delegated controlled acts.
o Current knowledge and understanding of the Standards for Critical Care Nursing in accordance with the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses (CACCN).
o Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment (Physical Assessment Course preferred).
o Arterial line monitoring, management of cardiac and or respiratory arrest and ROSC.
o Knowledge and experience with cardiac monitoring and interpretation including; hemodynamic monitoring, 12 lead ECG interpretation, defibrillation, cardioversion, pacing and mechanical ventilation.
o Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy Initiation, direct IV drug administration, vasoactive and emergency medications.
o Knowledge and experience with advanced pain management, including epidurals and pain pumps.
o Demonstrated ability to develop an integrated plan of care.
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations.
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care.
o Applies leadership skills by providing, facilitating and promoting quality patient care.
o Demonstrated ability to perform effectively as most responsible nurse in a total patient care model.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient and family education and the ability to promote health and wellness.
o Evidence of accurate, timely and appropriate documentation according to best practice guidelines and CNO standards.
o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving.
o Working knowledge of computers.
o Consistent and regular attendance essential.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
