Description:

A permanent, full-time, position has arisen within the Blood Science Service at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust for a Registered or Trainee Biomedical Scientist based at Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in Furness.
The location allows easy access to the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales and Morecambe Bay each offering extensive recreational opportunities.
This is an interesting and challenging position within a busy UKAS accredited Blood Science laboratory with a diverse repertoire. The Blood Science laboratories across the Trust work closely together to provide an efficient, high quality service utilising common analytical platforms and IT systems.
The department is committed to staff training, continuous development and quality improvement and the successful candidate must be equally committed to these principles.
The successful applicant will be required to rotate through the Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion laboratories, they will also be required to participate in a rota to support the Blood Science weekend service.
Applications will be considered from State Registered Biomedical Scientists or graduates with IBMS accredited Biomedical Science degrees who would be interested in an opportunity to work towards completion of an IBMS Registration Portfolio to gain State Registration.
HCPC Registered - Band 5 pay scale: £28,407 to £34,581 per annum with standard agenda for change enhancements for unsocial hours.

TRAINEE SALARY - PAY WILL BE ANNEX 21:

24 months prior to registration - 70% of the top of a Band 5
12 months prior to registration - 75% of the top of a Band 5
Leading to 100% Band 5 pay upon registration with HCPC
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) , and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice , Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre .
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
