Job Description:
This position includes the responsibility of performing polysomnography (diagnostic or therapeutic) on patients who present with various sleep disorders. The acuity of the patient population seen in our Sleep Lab is high, requiring experience working with patients having complex illnesses or disabilities, including patients with limited mobility.
The technologist will have direct patient contact, including explanation of the procedures, answering patient questions, setting up the patient for the procedure, resolving technical or equipment issues and overnight monitoring of the sleep study, ensuring patient safety and care is of utmost importance.
The technologist will also be responsible for the performing of analysis on sleep study data, in accordance with professional and THP Sleep Lab standards. Producing accurate reports containing appropriate clinical observations.

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) required
  • University Degree in a relevant discipline, i.e. BSc in Sciences, BSc or BA in Psychology.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in conducting overnight polysomnograms, including studies with CPAP, Bi-Level, Bi-Level ST and/or supplemental oxygen.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Scoring difficult PSGs on patients with multiple co-morbidities and difficult titration studies.
  • Current BCLS Certification required.
  • Strong technical skills, clinical skills, communication skills as well as interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience working with patients with complex illnesses/comorbidities or disabilities, including respiratory failure, hypoventilation, COPD, CHF and requiring Hoyer lifting.
  • Experience performing CPAP, Bi-Level and Bi-Level ST titrations (understanding ventilatory support) is required, with or without supplemental oxygen and with or without CO2 monitoring; and adjusting parameters based on clinical observations noted during the study – while always following physician orders or THP Sleep Lab protocols.
  • Aware of conditions and measures that affect patient safety
  • Demonstrate appropriate documentation of clinical observations throughout the study collection or analyses.
  • Ability to set-up, calibrate, perform routine maintenance, perform trouble-shooting, perform IPAC mandated disinfection and sterilization of equipment.
  • Must be able to perform quality control to ensure that data collection is accurate and of gold standard quality. (College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. (2016). Independent Health Facilities: Clinical Practice Parameters and Facility Standards: Sleep Medicine, 4th ed.)
  • Demonstrates good time management skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computer technology and various software applications; experience with Sandman M Drive and software is preferred
  • Excellent performance and attendance required.
