Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Registered Mental Health Nurse (RPN3) practises within a custodial setting and is required to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and maintain a high standard of patient care, recognising the needs of the individual within the boundaries set by the profession and the environment.
DUTIES:
- Work within an ethically and legally sound framework.
- Demonstration of highly developed skills in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients in a custodial setting.
- Demonstrate initiative in delivering nursing care and can practise autonomously.
- Crisis intervention assessment should be provided to prisoners throughout the facility as appropriate.
- Formulation and documentation of patient-centred care plans.
- Completion of initial and ongoing risk assessment of patients and liaison with the interdisciplinary team to provide a safe environment.
- Administration of medication to patients and monitoring of the effect on patients.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Maintenance of comprehensive patient-focused documentation.
- Maintenance of security practices within the unit.
- Adherence to the professional code of conduct and code of ethics.
