  • Gain a thorough understanding of the Commercial litigation process
  • Fixed term full time role until June 30, 2024, with the potential to be extended.

About us
The County Court of Victoria is established pursuant to the County Court Act 1958. It has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The Court hears over 11,000 criminal, common law and commercial cases each year.
The Commercial Division consists of any proceeding involving disputes concerning debts, claims for damages, any property, trusts and some appeals. There are 5 lists in the Commercial Division, the General List, Banking and Finance List, Complex Cases List, Building List and the Arbitration List. There is no upper monetary limit on the jurisdiction of the Commercial Division.
The Commercial Division has 6 judges, 2 judicial registrars, 2 division lawyers, and a dedicated Commercial Registry, led by the Commercial Division Director.
The Commercial Registry is directly managed by the Manager Registry Services and has 4 Case Coordination Registrars and 3 Registrars. The Commercial Registry is the principal point of contact between a party in a proceeding (primarily through their legal practitioners) and the Court and supports the progression of cases throughout their life cycle.
About the role
Commercial Registrars are responsible for a wide range of administrative tasks, not limited to managing document filings, managing the subpoena process, processing orders and correspondence and responding to enquiries by phone and email.
Once appointed as a Deputy Registrar of the County Court, you will also be required to perform legal, quasi-judicial and administrative functions as required under acts, rules and regulations, including the swearing of affidavits and certifying of documents.
In this role you will gain an in depth understanding of Court processes while working in a close-knit team that supports one another. You will engage with a broad array of stakeholders, not limited to judges and their associates, legal practitioners and the litigants themselves. This role provides an excellent insight into Court procedure and commercial litigation, and has opportunities for progression.
