    Are you ready to take on an exciting training opportunity in a premier intensive care service? This jobs is suitable for physicians at the level of PGY3+ who intend to follow a career pathway in Anaesthesia or Intensive Care Medicine and have a minimum of one years experience in Intensive Care or Anaesthesia.
    The job is located in a teaching hospital and the major tertiary referral centre providing specialised and emergency healthcare for the Waikato and Te Manawi Taki or Midlands area, with a catchment population of 900,000 people. It is the only major hospital in New Zealand to offer all surgical specialties on one campus and is the major trauma hospital for the central North Island.
    The Critical Care Unit is a vibrant and exciting place to work. The critical care department is made up of 16 intensive care beds and 12 HDU beds in a modern purpose built facility. New technology surrounds this department. Registrars work across the critical care looking after arguably the broadest range of patients in New Zealand. The patient population includes a large volume trauma centre, a neurosurgical ICU, cardiac surgery ICU, general adult ICU and limited paediatric ICU. Registrars are involved in transport across the midland regional hospitals by helicopter, plane and road.
    The Critical Care unit is ideal for those training in intensive care or who are considering this specialty as a future career and it is backed by C24 accreditation from the College of Intensive Care Medicine and a supportive specialist and senior registrar staff. Weekly teaching involves specialists and registrars and bed side teaching is the norm including teaching in echocardiography.
    Registrars are expected to work hard but will reap the rewards of experience with procedures and development of important decision making
    Located in Hamilton, the third largest city in the North Island. the hospital is 1½ hours from Auckland via a new expressway, and offers a great lifestyle. As the largest employer in Hamilton, there is a varied and approachable social network based around the hospital. It is within easy reach of both west coast surfing and east coast leisure beaches. Ski-fields and hot pools are a few hours away, and there are outstanding opportunities for hiking, fishing, biking and many other outdoor activities, providing plenty of options for recreation.
    Remuneration comprises a basic salary as per RMO framework, on call allowances and relocation package.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligibility for registration to practice medicine in New Zealand
  • Proven track record in delivering exceptional patient care
  • Experience in a surgical speciality
  • Completion of PGY2 or equivalent with a good reference
  • Desire to contribute to a busy yet supportive department
