Responsibilities:
KŌRERO MŌ TE TŪRANGA – ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regulatory Advisor - Māori role involves providing crucial support for start-up activities, including estimates/budgeting, feasibilities, and ethical and regulatory considerations. Grounded in the principles of Māori culture and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, this position ensures that research projects honour the partnership, participation, and protection principles, fostering genuine collaboration between Māori and non-Māori stakeholders. Additionally, through the lens of tikanga Māori, the advisor ensures that research practices align with cultural protocols, values, and customary practices, thereby upholding the integrity and mana of Māori knowledge systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing projects to ensure objectives are met effectively
- Collaborating across departments to maintain regulatory compliance
- Providing support, and advice to researchers throughout the process of preparing applications
- Liaising with relevant stakeholders such as sponsors, CROs, and internal teams as required
- Assists the research team in the preparation of study-related documentation and coordinates the completion of Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDAs), ensuring alignment with Māori perspectives and principles.
- Crafting strategic plans for successful project execution.
This role offers an opportunity to shape research practices that respect and integrate Māori perspectives, advancing both the organisation’s objectives and the broader goals of cultural equity, respect, and partnership as envisioned by Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
You will ensure that research processes and outcomes are culturally responsive and empower Māori individuals and communities through your expertise in research and regulatory affairs, coupled with knowledge and application of Kaupapa Māori methodology. Ideal candidates will possess:
- A deep understanding of Māori culture, Te Tiriti principles, and tikanga Māori
- Strong skills in stakeholder management and engagement.
- Demonstrateed expertise in Māori-centered and/or kaupapa Māori research and evaluation methodologies
- Proven ability to effectively navigate complex regulatory environments
