SUMMARY

The Regulatory Affairs Coordinator ensures compliance commitments are met through accurate execution of product specs and package labelling. This role will also be responsible for conducting internal/external compliance assessments and making sure raw material is compliant with Daiya’s commitment to better planet. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, and suppliers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in food processing or food manufacturing industry
  • Experience or knowledgeable about Food Labelling and Additive Regulations (Canada and US), HACCP, GMPs
  • Proven Ability to analyze regulatory issues and product testing results, identify potential obstacles or compliance gaps, and develop practical solutions to mitigate risks and achieve regulatory objectives.
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Legal departments, is preferred
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat are an asset

  • Proficiency in managing regulatory documents and submissions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex regulatory information clearly and effectively to various stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners
  • Sufficient organizational and project management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing documents, data, and regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to analyze regulatory issues, identify potential obstacles or compliance gaps, and develop practical solutions to mitigate risks and achieve regulatory objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Work cross-functionally to execute product commercialization steps and perform compliance verifications in innovation/renovation projects, and supply chain initiatives
  • Create and maintain internal Work-In-progress (WIP) specifications, finished good specifications, consumer relation master lists, internal/external product notifications, and other regulatory databases
  • Request and compile necessary supplier documentation for new ingredient and packaging review or generating finished product statements for customer requests
  • Assist QA with raw material management, Quality Management Software (QMS), and regulatory-related non-compliance investigation
  • Work with government bodies to get import/export documents and fill in customs paperwork for shipping R&D samples, raw material, and finished goods
  • Request, compile, and upload raw material documentation required to maintain product certifications (Kosher, Halal, Non-GMO Project, Certified Plant Based, GFCO Gluten Free Certification, How2recycle)
  • Review packaging artwork, sales materials, website and social media copy for regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate finished product third-party testing and conduct result analysis for risk assessment related to regulatory updates or compliance verification
  • Research allowable use and labelling requirements of new / novel ingredients, regulatory guidelines for making product claims on packaging, tariff codes/export regulations, or other new regulatory initiatives
  • Support Sales and Marketing teams with finished products information requests from customers
  • Keep up to date with Canadian and US food regulations, certification requirements, customer restrictions, and Daiya compliance initiatives
