MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credit hours in engineering and two years performing engineering or architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a current Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements for the required education.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering , Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering;
  • Coursework in any of the following: environmental engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, hydrology or hydrogeology;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Strong attention to detail.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

Responsibilities:

The Regulatory and Compliance Engineer I is an entry level position that will learn to perform sanitary surveys, prepare reports, and provide technical assistance to community and non-transient non-community public water systems in the State of Maryland with the intent to secure safe, reliable, and adequate public water supplies which comply with State and federal laws and regulations. The incumbent is required to travel to field locations for field observation. Field locations may be rough, rocky, wooded stream crossing, or wet terrain.
The incumbent in this position may be required to drive a State vehicle. If you maintain an out-of-state driving license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment. Individuals must maintain a driver’s license with no more than 5 points on their driving record in order to drive a State vehicle.
Working conditions of the position include:
• Work involves exposure to hazardous conditions which may result in injury.
• Work involves special and physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders, etc.
