We are looking for an interim Regulatory/Scientific support for a temporary project together with our client European Chemicals Agency ECHA. Please note that the working language is English. The job is a fixed-term position for the following period: 01/06/2024 - 30/09/2024, with potential for longer term extension.
Unit: A3 - Submission and processing
Job title: Scientific assistant

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or similar;
  • Minimum of 6 months of relevant professional experience;
  • Good command of Microsoft Excel, and the ability to learn new IT tools and processes fast;
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a systematic way;
  • Aptitude for team work as well as cooperative and customer-oriented attitude;
  • Good English skills both written and spoken (as this is the working language of the Agency).

General description:
Companies which are placing certain chemicals on the EU market are due to submit regulatory dossiers to ECHA. Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) benefit from reduced fees.
The SME verification team is verifying the size of companies which have declared to be SMEs and therefore have benefited from reduced fees. The verification is made by comparing documentation provided by companies in accordance with the criteria set in the Commission Recommendation 2003/361/EC concerning the definition of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Duties:

  • Perform verification of SME registrants’ company size; for that, analyse documents related to establishing ownership (group) structure of a company, financial statements, annual reports and headcount data; research on company background;
  • Prepare decisions and formal communication letters;
  • Respond to general queries and communications from companies in line with the relevant regulation, including through phone calls when necessary;
  • Prepare emails to companies with your verification findings and additional document requests;
  • Provide support in horizontal tasks to the SME Verification team;
  • Send decisions to registrants through ECHA’s IT tools (namely Dynamic Case and REACH-IT);
  • Monitor and report, archive, assist in management of emails and functional mailboxes.
