Description:
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Officer is responsible for supporting all development initiatives, with emphasis on major gifts and supporting campaign initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Baccalaureate degree and 3 – 5 years fund-raising experience, preferably in higher education, are required.
Experience with planned giving and the fundraising software, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, is preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Word) is essential. Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills are required. The ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) with alumni, corporate leaders, university employees, students, parents and friends of the University is essential. Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet short deadlines in accordance with the campaign operating plans. Takes initiative, works independently and as part of a team. Uses discretion and abides by all policies in handling confidential information. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required.
Responsibilities:
The Development Officer’s additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Building donor relationships by utilizing research, objectives, programs of cultivation and solicitation, evaluation, and stewardship;
- Working closely with other Development staff and volunteers to build and maintain momentum and focus for all fundraising efforts;
- Working closely with all other units within the University in supporting and coordinating efforts to efficiently and effectively advance the University;
- Attending and being actively involved in all internal and external Development initiatives, and any other university-wide initiatives, as applicable and available; and
- Adhering to the highest ethical standards and fundraising best practices by reflecting an optimistic and positive attitude and conveying sensitivity to the needs of donors.
- For optimal outreach to alumni and friends, year-round travel regionally and nationally, is required.
