We are currently looking to recruit a Renewable Power Risk Engineer with an Engineering degree (or equivalent), or soon to graduate, with BEng or CEng status (IMechE, EI or IET), who shares our passion for renewable energy and can contribute towards growing our renewable business.
Working alongside our highly experienced Risk Engineers we can offer a fantastic training programme, as well as getting you up to speed on the insurance specifics you will need to know as part of the role. We can also provide support to assist you in obtaining CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) qualification.

Responsibilities:

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This role will have a focus on power and renewable energy engineering working with wind, solar, hydroelectric power, battery storage, biomass and other renewable technology risks.
Reporting to the UK Loss Control Engineering Technical Manager you will be responsible for the sustainable power discipline, providing loss control expertise and support to help our policy holders avoid potential losses and remain business resilient through our safety and risk management information and services. Also, to assist our Underwriting team in risk selection and retention.
You’ll provide ongoing co-ordination and monitoring of loss prevention activity, the servicing of assigned accounts and loss control survey work. You will develop and maintain professional working relationships with our Underwriting, Distribution, Communications and Claims teams, as well as with our clients and brokers.
You will also track technical developments and share knowledge with colleagues, looking for continual improvements in risk assessment criteria and tools in close alignment with Claims and Underwriting teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will keep yourself up to date on your knowledge in respect of power and renewable energy technologies / energy projects, especially able to provide technical guidance on renewable risk submissions, with a focus on solar, Hydroelectric, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and onshore wind farms.
  • You will be liaising and collaborating with your Risk Engineering colleagues, as well as underwriting account and claims teams, aiding the development and implementation of underwriting strategy and standards in respect of technical developments, legislation and establish lessons learned, etc.
  • Carry out risk assessments and apply risk control measures for insured risks via; desk top reviews, on-site and remote surveys, for a large variety of plants and operational risk.
  • Attend site visits with brokers and clients throughout the UK to provide guidance on technical enhancements/improvements and thereby reduce the risk of failure or breakdown and associated material damage losses or injuries.
  • Work with underwriting, clients and brokers to develop customized loss control engineering programs and support the development of insurance programs. Generate and review required reports and recommendations, presenting results to Underwriters, clients and brokers.
  • Follow up on technological developments in your area and proactively engage in knowledge exchange with expert groups, training internal customers and external clients
  • Proactively support the development of data-based tools for simplified and optimized risk analysis
