JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Applied Communications Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is looking for a motivated and talented engineer to join our team. This position will be working with senior technical staff to research, design, develop, integrate, and test advanced wireless RF communications systems.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE INCLUDE:

  • Demonstrated ability to concurrently contribute on multiple technical projects
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Well-organized, independent, and ready to work with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working in an environment where problems are often not initially well-defined
  • Prior experience authoring or co-authoring papers, proposals, presentations, and reports on wireless communications topics for DoD projects
  • Prior experience as a Principal Investigator interacting with DoD customers
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence and other Atlassian tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, and Project
  • Active Security clearance
  • Prior experience with field work installing, repairing, and servicing electronic or electrical systems
  • Prior experience interacting with operators and users of communication systems, hardware, and software
  • Knowledge of database design and principles
  • Prior experience executing technical work in a DoD setting
  • Prior experience supervising medium-sized teams including student employees

Responsibilities:

  • Be a contributing member of the software and hardware teams in order to meet internal and external milestones and delivery deadlines.
  • Provide technical documentation for presentations, proposals, and reports
  • Provide support for quality assurance testing of products
  • Manage projects of small or moderate size and scope
  • Author or co-author papers, proposals, presentations, and reports on wireless communications topics
  • Participate in planning of complex experiments
  • Mentor and train employees in the development of technical and business skills
  • Develop strategic plans for completing multiple projects on schedule and within budget
    Minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Science discipline plus five years of related experience.
