THE POSITION
Position Title: Research Assistant (Grants, Contracts & Awards Office)
Status: Temporary, Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
Start Date: June 3, 2024
End Date: May 30, 2025 (with possibility of extension)

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Grants, Contracts and Awards office (GCAO) of the Bloorview Research Institute (BRI). The GCAO supports pre- and post research grant and award activities for the trainees, staff and scientists of the BRI. Reporting to the Contracts Specialist in the GCAO, this role primarily assists with basic research contract administrative tasks from initiation to execution as well as completing low risk contract reviews (approximately 0.7FTE). Additionally, the Research Assistant, GCAO, will support the GCAO with basic research grant, award and financial administrative duties as needed (approximately 0.3FTE).
This position offers flexible work arrangements including a combination of in-person and remote work.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (in life sciences, or health-related field)
- At minimum, one year of working experience in an academic or clinical research environment as a research assistant
- Previous experience with research grant budget management, research contracts, and/or tri-agency funding is an asset
- Adept at working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing academic research environment
- Excellent communication, judgment, interpersonal skills, analytic skills, problem-solving skills and consultative skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently
- Computer proficiency, especially MS Office applications and Adobe Acrobat
- Background in childhood disability is an asset
- Ability to set priorities and manage a busy work schedule
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support for various stages of the research contracts, grants and awards process including data entry, coordination of internal approvals, as well as the creation and distribution of internal communications and documents
- Review and update existing contractual clauses within standardized templates under the guidance of the Contracts Specialist
- Maintain existing system of digital records for the GCAO
- Research relevant legislation, regulations, and policies as needed
- Draft and execute low risk research contracts such as data transfer agreements, amendments, and nondisclosure agreements in collaboration with Contracts Specialist and research teams
- Assist with creation of standard research finance documents including invoices and cheque requests as well as fielding basic research finance inquiries
- Assist with internal awards and trainee programming supporting coordination of events and committees, collection of application documents, data entry and communications
- Communicate and liaise effectively with research teams and personnel as needed (i.e. collection of required documents, clarification of requests, sharing of additional resources etc.)
- Handling research and hospital related confidential information
- Other duties as required
