Description:

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI) is a department of the University of Cambridge and has the specific goal to harness the scientific strengths of Cambridge to solve problems encountered with the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer.
The Histopathology/ISH Core Facility offers a variety of routine and specialised histological techniques, including immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridisation (ISH), laser capture microdissection, automatic slide digitisation and image analysis to CRUK CI scientists.
We are now looking to recruit a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team of ten and contribute to the achievements of our Core Facility. This is a general histopathology role which will include routine histopathological processing of paraffin and frozen samples, sectioning of these blocks through to routine H&E and special staining. In addition, the role holder will be expected to carry out routine IHC and scanning on a weekly rotational basis.
The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a team environment, provide help to other members of the team, and generally contribute to a positive and collaborative atmosphere in the laboratory. They will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, and have the ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of personalities and staff at all levels of seniority. Attention to detail, organisation and significant experience in histology and IHC are essential. Knowledge of ISH, digital slide scanning, working to HTA guidelines and building tissue microarrays would also be beneficial but not essential. The candidate will have a Biomedical Science degree or equivalent experience.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check.
Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
We particularly welcome applications from women and /or candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.
