Description:

At Boston Children’s Hospital, the quality of our care – and our inclusive hospital working environment – lies in the diversity of our people. With patients from local communities and 160 countries around the world, we’re committed to reflecting the spectrum of their cultures, while opening doors of opportunity for our team. Here, different talents pursue common goals. Voices are heard and ideas are shared. Join us, and discover how your unique contributions can change lives. Yours included.
Dr. Dongwon Lee is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to perform a variety of computational genomics and genetics analyses. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest techniques in computational genomics and genetics.
We study disease-associated genetic variants using computational approaches with a particular focus on transcriptional regulatory mechanisms. We have developed several machine-learning methods for the analysis of regulatory elements and regulatory variants (Lee et al., Nature Genetics 2015; Lee, Bioinformatics 2016; Lee et al., Genome Research 2018; Han et al., PNAS 2022). Potential projects will include the development of computational methods to model regulatory control of human disease by incorporating improved machine-learning/deep-learning algorithms and single-cell multi-omics data (genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic). There will also be ample opportunity to collaborate with clinicians and wet-lab biologists to apply our methods to clinical genetic and genomic data and to validate our computational predictions in model systems.

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY, YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM, data science, computer science/engineering, biomedical engineering, computational biology, biostatistics, or related fields.
  • Programming skills in Python, R, or equivalent
  • Work experience in Unix/Linux environment
  • Experience with large genetic and genomic data analysis in a cluster computing environment (preferred)
  • Experience with standard genetics/genomics software such as bwa, STAR, GATK, DESeq, and Plink (preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Boston Children’s Hospital offers competitive compensation and unmatched benefits including flexible schedules, affordable health, vision and dental insurance, child care and student loan subsidies, generous levels of time off, 403(b) Retirement Savings plan, Pension, Tuition and certain License and Certification Reimbursement, cell phone plan discounts and discounted rates on T-passes. Experience the benefits of passion and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in performing various computational analysis of genetic and genomic data, such as bulk and single-cell RNA-seq and ATAC-seq, whole exome/genome sequencing and array genotyping data
  • Assists in troubleshooting computational analysis if results are unexpected
  • Conducts literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I.
  • Attends seminars and conferences to further own knowledge of research and analysis techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.
  • Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.
