  • Based at the City campus (This position will spend most of the time at Sunset Concrete Pty Ltd.’s site in Officer)

About the Position
This position is situated in the Manufacturing, Materials and Mechatronics discipline within the School of Engineering. The focus of this position is to support Sunset Concrete Pty Ltd in improving the demoulding and packaging of concrete sleepers through automation. The aim is to enhance production efficiency, reduce labour costs, and improve worker safety. The role involves providing solutions in the electronic and programming domains, specifically relating to sensors, interfacing circuitry, and the programming of the selected controllers.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have:
-

Research Experience and Technical Expertise: Proven ability to conduct high-quality applied research in the field of industrial automation, with extensive practical implementation of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensor technology, actuator interfaces, and other relevant Industry 4.0 technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems.

  • Project Management: Proven experience in managing projects from conception to completion, including the ability to manage logistics, budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder management.
  • Industry Collaboration: Demonstrated experience in working closely with industry partners to develop effective, impactful solutions that address real-world challenges.
  • Critical Thinking Skills: Proven capacity for innovative thinking and the application of creative approaches to solve complex engineering problems, particularly in an industrial automation context.
  • Teamwork and Communication Skills: Demonstrated experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams with high level communication skills.
  • Safety: Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety standards and practices in an industrial automation environment, particularly as they relate to automated systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/Master/PhD Degree(s) in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Manufacturing, or equivalent Engineering disciplines.
