POSITION OVERVIEW

The Department of Physics at the Ohio State University announces an opening for a research faculty hire in observational cosmology, with particular focus on spectroscopic galaxy surveys. The appointment is effective in Summer 2024 or sooner at the rank of Assistant Research Professor. We envision a candidate with strong potential for excellence in all aspects of scholarship and who will collaborate with the broad materials research community across campus and be an active member of major research centers at the Ohio State University, such as the Center for Cosmology and Astro-Particle Physics (CCAPP).
Successful candidates will be expected to:
1. Participate in a leading role in one or more observational cosmology collaborations performing state-of-the-art large scale structure surveys. Examples for such collaborations are the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Observatory.
2. Develop and maintain financial support from external funding agencies, construction projects for new experiments and/or the operations project for current surveys.
3. Provide mission critical service to the collaborations.
4. Have a strong publication record with 10 years of experience performing cosmology/large scale structure research.
5. Pursue a vigorous research program in observational cosmology.
6. Provide service to the department, college and university as appropriate for this position.
7. Support the Observational Cosmology group in the physics department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required: Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related field. We are seeking candidates with significant research experience in observational cosmology and a strong publication. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below).
Desired: Candidates should have a strong commitment to mentoring and an established record providing service to large observational cosmology collaborations. Candiates should have demonstrated success obtaining external funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Attachment 1: Cover Letter: 1-2 page letter, which should include a brief summary of your academic background and why you are interested in this opportunity.
  • Attachment 2: CV (Curriculum Vitae): Detailed overview of your scholarly experience, including your research experience, teaching and mentoring experience, service, funding, and publications.
  • Attachment 3: Research Statement: Summary of your past research accomplishments, current work/research, and proposal for your future research plan as a faculty member
