Research Assistant/Research Associate* - in mixed methods Primary Care Research

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate to join our team in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care on a new Cancer Research UK funded research programme focused on how to optimise implementation of breast cancer risk assessment into the NHS for women under age 50.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to all components of the programme but will be expected to i) contribute to qualitative work with healthcare professionals and policy makers to identify key points in current pathways that would be impacted by the introduction of different approaches to the implementation of a proactive risk-assessment process; ii) support qualitative work with members of the public to co-design potential strategies for implementing proactive breast cancer risk assessment within current clinical care; iii) lead on the set up and data collection for an online survey with members of the public; and iv) lead on the design, data collection and analysis of a pilot study and subsequent cluster-randomised trial of proactive risk assessment within primary care.
Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD or equivalent qualification. Given the nature of the programme of research, it is essential that applicants have experience of conducting quantitative research and managing research studies. Experience of research within primary care settings and quantitative methods is desirable, as is experience of co-design and online surveys. Good organisational and project management skills are also essential, as well as strong communication skills in both academic writing and wider dissemination. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be, awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date). If an individual has not submitted a PhD or is not working towards one they could be appointed as a Research Assistant if they have either a degree (and/or Master’s) in a relevant area or equivalent experience.
The funds for this post are available from 01 September 2024 for 24 months in the first instance.
This is a full-time position but part-time applications will be considered for no less than 23 hours per week. Working pattern can be discussed.
