Position Description
RAND seeks research assistants to work on research projects devoted to tobacco control. The research assistants will work with a team of clinical psychologists, social psychologists, and statisticians on projects funded by the National Cancer Institute. This is a limited duration term position, not to exceed 3 years.
Duties
Responsibilities include planning, coordinating and managing all activities associated with human research studies including data collection from study participants; participant recruitment, screening and scheduling; data entry, management and preparation; literature reviews; preparation of documents and presentations; and coordination of work among project team members. Research assistants may have the opportunity to co-author scientific journal articles.
Basic Qualifications
Successful candidates will have had experience in laboratory-based research and/or clinical field research; knowledge of policy research methods; some data entry and database management experience; excellent problem-solving skills; and effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with study participants, team members, and other departments and outside institutions. They must be highly motivated, organized, flexible, and demonstrate a strong commitment to RAND’s core values of quality and objectivity.
Education
BA/BS in psychology (preferred) or other social science discipline. Master’s level applicants should look for Analyst positions on the RAND job posting site.
Specific Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
- Experience with standard statistical software packages (SPSS, SAS) preferred
- Experience conducting qualitative interviews and experience using qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, Dedoose)
