Description:
Overview:
The Research Assistant in the Comi Lab will perform maintenance and differentiation of cell lines, assist with maintenance of a mouse colony, and carry out routine laboratory experiment.
Responsibilities:
- Under initial supervision and training of the faculty investigator, follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform experiments. This may include mouse handling and injections, genotyping, perfusion of mice, iPS culture and differentiation, immunohistochemistry, tissue sectioning, mammalian or human tissue culture, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, laboratory reagent preparation, and other basic molecular biology techniques.
- Performs general lab maintenance duties including monitoring inventory levels and ordering supplies and reagents as needed.
- Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures using universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials.
- Uses various software applications, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble and format data.
- Maintains detailed electronic and written documentation of all experiments performed and reviews data and design, or troubleshoots experiments during regular meetings with the faculty investigator.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience working in a research laboratory as an undergraduate student or technician required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Basic background in biology techniques and ability to learn new skills on the job including: cell culture, mouse colony management and routine molecular biology techniques required.
