UTS is a contributing organisation to the Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures. Administered by the University of Queensland the Centre has multiple national and international partners who will be engaged in conducting research focused on Indigenous survivance and futures, including thematic areas of Law and Justice, Health and Wellbeing, and Education and Economies.The Research Assistant will provide research support to the NSW/ACT Node Leader, Chief Investigators and Postdoctoral Research Associates based at UTS. The Research Assistant will contribute to the building of a National Indigenous Knowledge Infrastructure and cultivate relationships with peers across the research themes and centre nodes contributing to the success of the overall research program.Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged.About the InstituteJumbunna Research is a unique First Nations research institute in Australia comprising nine research hubs: Child Protection Advocacy; Cultural Resilience; First Nations Land Justice, Indigenous Archives and Data Stewardship; Indigenous Law and Justice; Indigenous Nations and Collaborative Futures; Indigenous People and Work; Indigenous Policy and Legal Strategies. The Indigenous-led research team operates throughout Australia with staff working in communities in Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, and New South Wales engaging with collaborators internationally and in all States and Territories. The vision is to promote, support, and embody the exercise and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sovereignty and Self-Determination.About the roleThe Research Assistant will provide research support to the project researchers including:

  • Undertaking literature searches, maintaining EndNote (or equivalent) libraries, drafting papers and reports in support of project outputs.
  • Collecting, analysing and coding research project data.
  • Liaising with collaborators and community to coordinate their input into research activities in consultation with the research team.
  • Assisting with the preparation of oral presentations, and other activities to support dissemination of research findings.
  • Contributing to implementation of research insights (research translation) into activities and advocacy.
  • Supporting the efficient development and functioning of a national network of researchers.

About youThe candidate will need to possess the following skills, experience, and attributes:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues.
  • High level writing and research skills including experience in assisting with preparation of reports, communication plans and journal articles.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders, respecting culture, values and ways of doing business.
  • Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis and the ability to manage the logistics of field-based research.

Remuneration & BenefitsBase Salary Range: $80,044 to $91,570 pa (HEW 5)This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee Benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 5 years.How to apply
