SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Advanced Diploma in medical sciences, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and experience with animal models
- Experience with use of mice and rats including anaesthesia, administration of drugs via multiple routes, monitoring, humane euthanasia, collection of bronchoalveolar lavage, processing of specialized tissue such as joints.
- Some experience in tissue culture, molecular biology, microscopy, cell biology and ELISA.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Responsibilities:
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS:
The Research Assistant position within the School of Biomedical Sciences is pivotal, offering essential practical research and administrative aid to project teams and stakeholders.
Focused on inflammation research, the role involves hands-on assistance with experiments using two rodent models of inflammation, as well as conducting basic procedures such as cell culture, RNA and protein extraction, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting and ELISA assays. Additionally, the Research Assistant will contribute to the ongoing upkeep of the laboratory environment.
Working in a highly collaborative and collegial working team and reporting directly to the Group Leader and the Senior Postdoctoral Fellow, this role holds significant responsibility and has no direct reports.
