ABOUT US
The Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term). The incumbent will be responsible for conducting research in viral vector design. Activities will largely focus on medium throughput in vitro testing of synthetic viral vectors, including assembly, transduction, and immunogenicity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in protein biophysics or synthetic biology or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of four years postdoctoral fellowship and/or industry equivalent experience in protein design or synthetic biology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and work environment.
- Demonstrated excellent leadership/organization as a team leader in R&D projects.
- Demonstrated research excellence in the area of protein engineering, preferably with a strong publication record.
- Demonstrated experience with cloning and human cell culture.
- Demonstrated experience with flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, Gibson assembly, Golden Gate assembly, Lenty viral delivery and Cas9-CRISPR.
- Extensive experience in coding using python.
Responsibilities:
DUTIES:
The candidate will use their skills to contribute towards the goals of a TIAP Lab150 funded project. They will conduct the research and data collection needed to reach agreed milestones. The candidate will liaise with pharmaceutical partners, and others as necessary, to assist in the compilation, analysis and reporting of research findings. Previous experience in management of collaborations is desired.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing and executing research vision with PI.
- Medium throughput production and testing of synthetic viral vectors.
- Maintaining panel of human immortalized cell lines.
- Constructing and maintaining human blood and blood product bank.
- Establishing and performing range of immunological assays (neutralization, ELISA, ELISpot).
- Publishing both at conferences and in high impact peer reviewed journals.
- Assisting PI with writing of research grants.
- Mentoring trainees.
- Collaborating with other academic groups, pharmaceutical partners, and hospital facilities.
