Join AIR as a Research Associate with our Education Statistics team. The mission of our team of experts is to provide statistical evidence that is meaningful, timely, accurate, and trustworthy. Our Education Statistics portfolio focuses on the development, collection, analysis, and communication of international, national, and state statistics. Our primary practice hubs are:

  • Measurement and statistics in large-scale surveys
  • Standards and assessment

Our Education Statistics team is driven by our mission to make the world a better, more equitable place.
AIR’s Education Statistics program area is seeking a Research Associate to support a variety of sample survey studies, administrative studies, and/or longitudinal studies. Examples of studies include National Household Education Study, National Training, Education, and Workforce Survey, School Survey on Crime and Safety Survey, National Teacher and Principal Survey, High School Longitudinal Study, Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Middle Grades Longitudinal Study, the Public Libraries Survey, and the National Museum Survey. Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.This does not include U.S. territories.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in such fields as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, public policy, survey methodology, or other social science related fields.
  • Methodological education and/or expertise in social science research practices
  • Basic understanding of/exposure to basic descriptive and inferential statistics

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate efficiently in a virtual work environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to rigorous quality control
  • Comfortable working independently and as a member of a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all levels
  • Ability to use statistical software programs such as R, SPSS, or Stata to analyze data – a plus (not required)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for a variety of sample survey studies, administrative studies, and/or longitudinal studies. Examples of studies include National Household Education Study, National Training, Education, and Workforce Survey, School Survey on Crime and Safety Survey, National Teacher and Principal Survey, High School Longitudinal Study, Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Middle Grades Longitudinal Study, the Public Libraries Survey, and the National Museum Survey.
  • Provide support to the operations of data collection, including activities related to interviewer training, user experience testing, monitoring field operations, and creating indicators of data collection.
  • Conduct data analysis and reporting of survey results and methodological survey research.
  • Support the drafting and review of statistical products such as data documentation, analysis reports, and blogs.
  • Conduct basic statistical analyses to produce summary statistics.
  • Conduct data quality assurance checks.
  • Support qualitative research projects with schools, teachers, parents, and districts.
  • Conduct literature reviews to help support potential survey design questions
