Role Overview:
The applicant will carry out research duties under the direct supervision of the Director of R&D, Biomolecules in San Jose. This position requires a bachelor’s degree with 2-5 years of experience, and the applicant should have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within molecular biology, chemistry and biochemistry. Primary research will focus on Product Development to fulfill the Product Development Roadmap. The focus will be on developing the nucleic acid and protein businesses. Applicant will complete projects from concept to validated product for instrumentation and consumables utilize for R&D work in the Biopharmaceutical business. Other responsibilities including technical and applications support of sales and business development activities. The applicant will write technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations. Applicant will be adept at working in collaborative, cross-functional teams.

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Execution of daily experimentation within the San Jose facility including performing experimentation, determining analytical results, interpretation of data and organization and presentation of data to manager and team
  • Team member within larger development team responsible for owning action items, problem solving solutions and reviewing teammate results as presented
  • Routinely maintain neat working environment within San Jose laboratory including defining and procuring equipment and consumables needed for experimentation.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the wet lab experiments to develop protein and nucleic acid separation
  • Operate technical research equipment such as Biotage Phyprep, Endoscan, automated liquid handlers, basic manual and automated pipettes, etc.
  • Cloning, production and purification of plasmids, RNA and other nucleic acids
  • Production and purification of proteins and peptides
  • Develop automated separation chemistry kits for proteins, peptides and nucleic acids separations
  • Troubleshoot automated protein and nucleic acid separation procedures
  • Interface with systems and software engineers to verify and validate new applications, methods, and products
  • Collaborate with Marketing to carry out successful beta testing
  • Transfer of new product designs to manufacturing operations
  • Professionally represent the organization to achieve a positive image.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication with both internal and external customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of R&D, Biomolecules

Skill Requirements/Education/Experience Required:

  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation in a straight-forward, logical manner
  • Ability to work safely and hygienically within a laboratory environment
  • Orientation to internal and external customer satisfaction
  • Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Attention to details to ensure information is communicated with high accuracy
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking dynamic environment including at times rapid changes in priorities
  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree: Molecular Biology or other related fields or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Strong organization, technical, planning, communication (oral & written) and customer service skills
  • 2-5 years’ experience in an assignment working with laboratory, biotechnical and/or analytical instrumentation systems a strong plus.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and similar products to communicate technical results to team
