SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently without supervision, work in a multidisciplinary team, and participate in team culture
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Experience performing complex or novel enzymatic reactions in a research setting is essential; experience in industrial settings is a major asset
- Experience with characterization and enzymatic conversion of starch into value-add products is a major asset
- Experience with microbial conversion and fermentation is a major asset
- Experience in experimental design and method optimization
- Experience with chromatography analytical equipment
- Experience with proposal writing and preparing technical reports
- Experience with bioinformatics is an asset
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD. or MSc. In Biochemistry or a related field. A BSc. will be considered with 4 or more years of directly related experience in a research lab
- Minimum of 2 years of related laboratory work experience
- Equivalencies may be considered
Remuneration: $71,098.04 - $95,372.94 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Research Associate I).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.

Responsibilities:
- Fill the role of knowledge repository in the space of enzymatic transformations
- Conduct a variety of laboratory-based techniques including enzymatic reactions and operating analytical equipment
- Compile and interpret data including statistical analysis
- Developing lab techniques and protocols
- Writing and/or reviewing reports and proposals
- Prepare presentations and communicate results and observations effectively between project teams and industry partners as needed
- Develop and execute experimental plans with minimal oversight
