Join AIR as a Research Associate with our Education Statistics team. The mission of our team of experts is to provide statistical evidence that is meaningful, timely, accurate, and trustworthy. Our Education Statistics portfolio focuses on the development, collection, analysis, and communication of international, national, and state statistics. Our primary practice hubs are:

  • Measurement and statistics in large-scale surveys
  • Standards and assessment

Our Education Statistics team is driven by our mission to make the world a better, more equitable place.
AIR’s Education Statistics program area is seeking a Research Associate to join the Annual Reports and Information Staff (ARIS) project. The project supports the activities of the NCES Annual Reports and Information Staff Program by providing support for the development, production, and dissemination of high-quality, timely, and reliable statistical reports on educational topics, with relevance to the needs of policy makers, researchers, and the general public. Support for ARIS entails a wide array of activities.
Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations. This does not include U.S. territories.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two year’s related experience OR Master’s degree in a social science or related substantive area
  • Proficient in R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA programming and experience in manipulating and analyzing large data sets with complex survey design
  • General knowledge of education policy and interest in a wide range of educational issues and research
  • Experienced with NCES data sets including Common Core of Data (CCD), Private School Universe Survey (PSS), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS), and non-NCES data sets including Current Population Survey (CPS) and American Community Survey (ACS)
  • Experienced in managing tasks and assignment of increased scope and complexity

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to write, think, operate, follow through and follow up independently
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work with others efficiently in a virtual work environment.
  • Proficiencies with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel
