We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented and results-driven individual to join our company, in the In Vivo Biology group, as a Research Associate. This role requires an individual who is hands-on at the bench, capable of generating high quality data, and can provide assistance and support to research conducted in the Biology department. Candidates should be comfortable in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
This individual will work closely with researchers to understand the molecular and biochemical pathways through which our new compounds work in the context of cancer, inflammatory diseases, and psychiatric disorders. This bench research position will support Intra-Cellular Therapies’ goals to develop innovative treatments to improve the health of patients suffering from CNS and Oncological disorders.
This position is classified as a NYC headquarters position, but the role is currently working remote.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • BS degree with 2+ years of experience in biology, cell biology, pharmacology, immunology, or related disciplines is required.
  • Previous experience with safe handling of laboratory animals and expertise in tissue dissection is required.
  • Familiar with Good Laboratory Practices and trained in maintaining a safe working environment is required.
  • Immunology experience preferred.
  • Experience in molecular biology (RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, western blot), flow cytometry, and cell culture in a BSL2 environment is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with commonly used data analysis programs such as Excel and Prism strongly preferred.
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, reliable team player, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, accountable and well organized in record documentation, multitasking and troubleshooting required.
  • Ability to generate high quality data within the allocated time frame to meet the given objectives.
  • Able to work independently on assigned tasks, as well as alongside others from a diverse background.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (evening/weekend).

Responsibilities:

The Research Associate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Rodent husbandry and colony maintenance, monitoring health status of animals, and animal (rodent) handling
  • Assist scientists in both the cancer and neuroscience (CNS) groups.
  • Within the cancer group, this individual will assist scientists in implanting and tracking growth of syngeneic tumors in mice, compound dosing (IV, IP, PO, SC), performing tumor measurement, non-terminal and terminal blood collection, terminal tissue/cell harvesting, processing and analysis.
  • Within the neuroscience (CNS) group, this individual will assist scientists in mouse and rat handling, compound formulation and dosing (IV, IP, PO, SC), performing behavioral testing of rats and mice in models of anxiety, depression and cognitive impairment (including data analysis of recorded behavior), euthanizing rodents for collection of brain tissue, performing analysis of brain tissues by western blotting, ELISA, and qPCR.
  • In vitro tasks will include maintaining cell lines (including tumor cell lines) and performing viability, proliferation, and migration assays; ex vivo culture and differentiation of macrophages.
  • Development, design and execution of RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, Western blot, ELISA, IHC, IF, flow cytometry.
  • Performing assays, troubleshooting complications, and proposing innovative solutions to address challenges.
  • Preparing technical reports, summaries, protocols, and accurate notebook documentation.
  • Performing general laboratory duties and setting up the bench experiments, including maintaining laboratory equipment, stock solutions, placing and tracking animal orders, and maintaining supplies (e.g., commonly used reagents and glassware).
  • Maintaining good laboratory and safety practices, ensuring a clean and orderly environment.
  • Complete all company and job-related training as assigned within the required timelines.
