Description:

Applications are invited for a position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate funded as part of a Medical Research Council Career Development Award to work on a project evaluating the effects of antenatal exposure to medications for cardiac dysfunction on fetal health. This full time position is based at the Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre (MFHRC) in Manchester.
The post involves experiments with human tissue samples, primary cell co-cultures, perfusion of tissues, focusing particularly on vascular aspects of the human placenta; and in vivo experiments in a pregnant mouse model, with a major focus on fetal physiology.
The successful applicant will have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, with experience of ex vivo physiology, in vitro experimentation and real-time measurements. The appointee will receive full training as appropriate. However, the ability to conduct experimental work independently is essential, other than communicating findings regularly and attending meetings.
Candidates must be strongly motivated and prepared to work out-of-hours appropriate to the nature of research.
The project relies on the availability of fresh placenta tissue which therefore means the hours of work will vary on a daily basis often with very little notice and will require the appointee to live within close proximity to the main campus of the University.
