Description:

Are you interested in working within an internationally connected, world-leading research team in the Natural Language Processing research group?
We are welcoming applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate position in the area of natural language processing and machine learning, and more specifically large generative models. Your focus will be researching the application of large generative models for sustainability reporting as part of the Innovate UK fund project “ASIMOV: AI-as-a-Service”. The project will provide all necessary computational resources for the project, including access to Nvidia A100 GPUs for parallel computing.
You will carry out research on the latest advances in computational methods for Large Language Model training and fine-tuning. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in this topic and in writing high-quality research papers.
You will hold a PhD (or be near completion / have equivalent industrial experience) in Natural Language Processing/Machine Learning or a related area with a solid research background.
The Department of Computer Science was established in 1982 and has since attained an international reputation for its research and teaching. In the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), 99% of our research was rated in the highest two categories (4* and 3*), meaning that it is classed as world-leading or internationally excellent. Half of our research outputs were judged to be world leading. We were rated as 8th in the UK (out of 90 institutions) for the quality of our research environment, and 70% of our impact was judged to be outstanding. Much of our research spans the boundaries between engineering, medicine and the life sciences. Research in the Department is organised into a number of groups: Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Speech and Hearing, Computer Vision, Foundations of Computation, Complex Systems Modelling, Pervasive Computing, Security of Advanced Systems, and Testing. We attract substantial external funding from UK Research Councils, the European Union and industry. Our record for leadership in collaborative research is outstanding, particularly in European programmes. The Department is currently host to two ERC fellows and three EPSRC fellows. More information on the Department of Computer Science can be found at www.shef.ac.uk/dcs.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
