JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Research Associate in the Biorepository assists in duties and activities associated with supporting Biorepository retrospective projects and research studies at Intermountain Health. A key responsibility of this position is providing support to Biorepository Research Coordinators, principal investigators, pathologists, department managers and other staff. Acting as a resource to others, may serve as a subject matter expert and trainer within the team.
Under the direct supervision of the Research manager for the Biorepository, the Research Associate assists in screening pathology materials and assessing eligibility for project and research protocols and potential for utilization in a project. Assists in routing and monitoring participant materials through the workflow, for review and processing, throughout the course of the project. The Research Associate coordinates relevant participant pathology material information to pathologists according to research protocols and project specifications to assist them in their review of participant materials for inclusion or exclusion in a project.
Maintains project-specific forms and documentation as necessary. Performs quality assurance of materials by verifying quantities, labeling, and packaging is in accordance with regulatory guidelines as well as department and customer requirements. Assists with the coordination of permanent pathology material storage and organization of the Biorepository’s inventory. Safely operates biorepository / laboratory equipment and complies with all regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of research experience working with human subject samples and materials.
  • Experience using basic computer programs including word processing, database, spreadsheet applications and e-mail.
  • Experience using study/project protocols/specifications, tracking systems and documentation systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree or higher.
  • Experience in healthcare.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, etc. and to see to identify equipment and supplies and to utilize a wide variety of information including organizing and completing documentation and forms, accessing and entering computer information, and identifying needs and urgent issues.
Frequent interactions with pathologists, histologists, Biorepository Research Coordinators, Biorepository Leadership, and Biorepository operations team members that require employee to communicate with tact and diplomacy in high stress environments. Verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate materials with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient materials reviews, accessing needed information, operating telephones and other office equipment, including manipulating paper - requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
Expected to bend, lift, and carry patient materials, documents, equipment, and supplies.
Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time while interacting with others or to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
