Description:

Role Objective:
As a member of the Innovation team, the Research Associate Intern is tasked with helping spearhead the creation and realization of next generation data products. This entails a dual-focus approach: firstly, the exploration of new data sources to design new innovative features; and secondly, the crafting of prototype solutions – which can be made up of data pipelines and predictive models. Candidates should possess a keen aptitude for programming, a profound understanding of data manipulation and visualization, and a solid grounding in statistical methods, data science principles, and data processing techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Education - Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline. A Master’s degree is advantageous but not mandatory.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proficient in exploratory data analysis using Python and SQL.
  • Skilled in developing machine learning models, with proficiency in scikit-learn or PySpark preferred.
  • Strong foundation in statistical analysis.
  • Competent in programming with Python and SQL.
  • Prior experience with Census, survey, and varied data sources will be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks or other cloud platforms will be considered an asset.
  • Understanding frameworks such as DBT will be considered an asset.

  • Conduct thorough investigations and analyses of vast data repositories.
  • Design and implement innovative data products, leveraging diverse data sources.
  • Engineer, test, and refine machine learning models to enhance predictive accuracy and reliability.
  • Craft compelling visualizations to uncover and communicate data trends.
  • Establish rigorous quality control checks for product integrity.
