Research Associate - Machine Learning (all genders)

At Evotec, we use supervised ML algorithms and other AI approaches to make use of our vast biomedical datasets. Our aim is to tackle yet unsolved challenges in early drug discovery. Join our steadily growing machine learning team to make a difference in pharmaceutical research for patients.

Your key responsibilities:

• Contribute to ML solutions that elucidate causes of diseases and thus help to make better diagnoses for patients and enable the development of novel drugs
• Prepare ML-ready data sets from a rich source of omics data, patient data, and chemical information
• Deliver reliable and efficient Python code
• Provide guidance in your area of expertise to other team members
• Collaborate with colleagues from the bioinformatics team, medical experts, wet lab and computational scientists
• Communicate and present results internally and externally

Your ideal qualifications:

• Master’s degree with at least two years of relevant professional experience or a PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, or in a related STEM field
• A few years of solid experience with machine learning concepts and their real-world application (e.g. linear and non-linear models, hyperparameter search, model assessment and interpretation)
• Strong programming skills in Python (scikit-learn, pandas, pytorch, optuna)
• Professional experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry is a plus
• Basic life science knowledge, familiarity with omics data or drug discovery is a strong plus
• Familiarity with the version control system git
• Ideally, experience in working with Linux and HPC systems (e.g. SLURM)
• Capability to organize your work efficiently and meet deadlines
• Good communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff, collaborators, and customers
• Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
• Fluency in English
