ABOUT US

The Centre for Research on Migration and Ethnic Relations is one of the eight governing research centres that encompass the Network for Economic and Social Trends (NEST), which brings together the research centres in the Faculty of Social Science.
The Western Centre for Research on Migration and Ethnic Relations facilitates research that draws on academic knowledge to inform public policy and practice on migration and ethnic relations in Canada and internationally. The goals of the Centre are to foster interdisciplinary research among faculty and students on questions of direct relevance to migration and ethnic relations, provide training opportunities for students beyond the borders of their own discipline and Western, and forge links with policy makers, the academic community in Canada and internationally, and the community at large.

  • PhD in a relevant disciplin

Experience

  • At least 1 year experience with qualitative researc

  • Must be fully bilingual in reading, writing, speaking and understanding French and English
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to collect and analyze data in an objective manner
  • Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research
  • Familiarity with University research policies and practices
  • Familiarity with methods for research design, implementation, and analysis
  • Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve goals

Responsibilities:

The Research Associate will apply their expertise and knowledge to a research project on the experiences of French-speaking temporary residents in Canada. They will develop research plans, materials, help collect data, and help in preparing reports, publications, and presentations as required.
