Science and Site Ecology, the Chair of Forest Sites and Hydrology offers a position as
Research Associate / PhD Student in forest hydrology (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting October 1, 2024. The position is limited to three years which entails 50% of the full-time
weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act

qualification (usually PhD).
The Chair of Forest Sites and Hydrology represents the field matter and water cycling in forests.
Research focuses on the challenges of global change for establishment, transformation and
management of forests linked to matter and water cycles.
Tasks: Scientific teaching and research activities. The aim of this PhD position is to contribute to
research focusing on isotope (eco)hydrology with a focus on water and isotope fluxes through forest
ecosystems. Tasks encompass field data collection of all relevant ecohydrological fluxes and a model-
based assessment of water cycling through forests with a strong emphasis on hydro-climatic
extremes (e.g., droughts). Within this research field, the PhD will be able to further develop their own
scientific profile, e. g. through courses offered by TUD’s graduate academy; as well as independently
supervise BSc/MSc students.
Requirements: university degree in hydrosciences, (eco)hydro(geo)logy, forest ecology, geoscience
(or related fields); preferably with some field and/or lab experience; proven experience in working in
diverse teams, scientific publishing skills (see required documents), interest or experience in
(eco)hydrological modelling; basic knowledge of German is desirable. A driver’s license is mandatory.
We offer: an inspiring, international working environment with state-of-the-art (soil) hydrological and
isotopic analytical tools; attractive working conditions and opportunities for further professional
development at TUD; flexible working hours and the possibility to combine family and career.
