Research Associate (Qualitative)

The Department of Health Sciences is looking to appoint a Research Associate with expertise in qualitative research methods and relevant experience in designing behavioural interventions. This role is fixed term for a period of 12 months and available at 0.5 FTE.
You will be part of the Administrative Fairness in Healthcare project that explores how people interact with healthcare services to improve outcomes for all. It is a multi-disciplinary project that brings together researchers from York Law School, the Department of Health Sciences, and the Institute of Mental Health Research at York (IMRY).
This post will specifically support Smoking Cessation Workstream within the project, which examines the role of quality of interaction in delivering behavioural support and its effect on patient engagement with Stop Smoking Services. You will work with the Workstream lead, Dr Omara Dogar, as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
You will have knowledge, skill and experience of conducting qualitative research, and hold a PhD or equivalent experience in applied health research or a related discipline. You will support research activities on exploring and co-designing strategies to promote quality of interaction in smoking cessation support in healthcare settings. The post will be based at the University of York with travel to study sites. There will be opportunities for professional development and to participate in conferences for purposes of dissemination of research.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION NEEDED

• PhD in Applied Health Research or related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of health behaviour change science, co-production methods and a range of qualitative research methods.
• Ability to communicate research and effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders.
• Experienced in carrying out both independent and collaborative research.
• Experience in conducting research studies in healthcare settings, particularly the NHS, including liaison with regulatory and ethics bodies, site set-up, recruitment, and data collection.
• Ability to write research reports and develop research proposals.
• Willingness to travel for data collection.

The successful applicant will be expected:

• To conduct research under the supervision of senior colleagues and to contribute to the production of research.
• To assist in the identification and development of potential areas of research and the development of proposals for independent or collaborative research projects.
• To setup and conduct research activities within partner organisations (e.g. the NHS), including stakeholder meetings.
• To coordinate with ethics and other research regulatory bodies.
• To contribute to development of study protocols and research tools.
• To perform data collection and analysis, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of the project milestones.
• To contribute to producing research outputs, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and grant proposals.
