ABOUT YOU
With a relevant PhD in mathematics, physics, Earth sciences or a cognate discipline, the ideal candidate will be proficient in at least one area (and ideally more than one) amongst the following: theoretical/analytical tools, data-driven methods including machine learning and artificial intelligence, and numerical modelling. You should have demonstrable experience in various research activities with good writing and presentation skills.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for an ambitious and creative early career researcher for a position of PDRA in Applied Mathematics. The post is funded by the College of Science and Engineering and is aimed at supporting research within the broad theme “Mathematics of Planet Earth”. This includes research areas like extreme events, critical transitions, response of the climate system to perturbations; analysis of interplay of climate variability and climate change, metastability and long transients, parametrization of unresolved processes, and model reduction methods, and among others. Climate is intended here in a broad sense, encompassing potentially its physical as well as biological and ecological dimensions.
The post-holder will be embedded in a world-class research environment and will have the possibility to interact with multiple academic partners in the UK and overseas. It is expected that the post-holder will support graduate students, deliver scientific presentation of the obtained results in international conferences, and contribute to the preparation of reports and scientific publications. Contributing to teaching activities is encouraged.
