Our research team is seeking a research coordinator with qualitative research experience to assist with a project that examines how the pharmaceutical industry markets its products in Canada. In particular, we are focusing on how data analytics, processes and/or tools (e.g., educational information, clinical decision support) in electronic medical record systems or other patient care software platforms can be used to promote pharmaceutical products and monitor the impact on clinician behaviour. We are interested in individuals’ experiences with these promotional approaches and their views on the benefits and risks of this form of promotion.
Our study goal is to understand and critically analyze the emergence of this marketing system in Canada, and the implications this may have for individuals, communities, and society. The study is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Summary of Duties:

  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the project from setting timelines and managing budgets to data collection and analysis
  • Coordinate and conduct interviews with key informants
  • Analyze documents and observe conference activities
  • Assist with data analysis, including coding and memo writing
  • Monitor the progress and deadlines of research activities, develop and maintain records of research activities, establish and maintain operating policies and procedures
  • Prepare reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies
  • Proactively identify barriers/threats/risks for project completion and work with team members to develop solutions
  • Collaborate with team members to write and edit presentations, publications, conference materials, and manuscripts
  • Coordinate knowledge translation activities, including organizing a dissemination meeting; prepare social media/blog posts; develop a media toolkit

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Graduate-level education and relevant experience
  • Experience with qualitative research methodologies, in particular conducting and analyzing interview transcripts
  • Experience managing research budgets
  • A background in fields of health policy, science and technologies studies and/or sociology is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of planning and management processes for research (e.g., experience with the ethics approval process, federal granting agency guidelines, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead a wide variety of people at different levels
  • Computer competency, including familiarity with NVIVO, citation manager (e.g., EndNote, Zotero), MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Publisher
