Research Coordinator - Infant Development &the Environment Study

Dr. Nicole Bush has the need for one part-time position (50%), for a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) on her research projects. The CRC will be supervised by Dr. Bush.
The Infant Development and the Environment Study (TIDES) is a multi-site longitudinal study funded by the NIH following pregnant women and their offspring designed to investigate the impact of social and environmental chemical exposures on child development and health. This individual will support research activities with the TIDES cohort and serve in the role as the TIDES multisite study, San Francisco study site research activities coordinator, and will be supervised by Dr. Bush (UCSF Site PI).
They will conduct a variety of research tasks to support the study and team, including calling already-enrolled study families to schedule follow-up research visits, arranging for shipment of materials to families before and return of materials after study visits, and managing participant gift card reimbursement. They will complete data entry, organization of physical data and forms, supplies ordering and inventory, administrative tasks, and attending research meetings. They will also work closely with the other study coordinator to conduct research participant assessments, including consenting, collecting questionnaires from participants, helping the coordinator to complete bodily measurements (height, weight) and sample collection (saliva and urine samples). They will also operate the study computers to input and monitor data collection during study tasks. They will also arrange pediatric blood draws and specimen processing with the UCSF PCRC and escort families to the PCRC to complete that component of the study with that nursing team. They will also have responsibility for ensuring proper storage of biospecimens and coordination of specimen shipments to study labs and repositories.
This position is expected to last through the end of the the funded award, which ends in 2027.
Note: This position requires a physical/health screening.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine with 20 specialty divisions and over 400 faculty members, of which 12% have identified as underrepresented in medicine. The Department’s annual revenue is $230 million. The residency program is ranked 5th in the country by US News World and Report, with 42% of Interns identified as underrepresented in medicine. The Department received 5 NIH Diversity Supplements in 2022 and is currently ranked 14th amongst all Departments of Pediatrics by Blue Ridge Institute with $28 million in NIH funding.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• HS graduation or GED and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Demonstrated experience working with preteen or teen-aged children.
• In-depth knowledge of clinical research protocols, and experience completing complex study visits.
• Sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities, including experience administering and overseeing the administration of study assessments, biological specimen collection, and physical measurements with children.
• Demonstrated ability with participant retention strategies, ability to adapt and implement new strategies to meet current retention goals.
• Project management skills to oversee the administrative operations of the research program.
• Experience using database software, such as RedCap.
• Analytical skills to evaluate the importance and urgency of problems; excellent demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population.
• Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s level degree in social science or medical science related field.
• Experience collecting medical or biological measures.
• Experience with anthropometric assessments, such as height and weight.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and efficient in task completion.
• Experience working with children with behavioral or developmental challenges.
• Experience managing data entry.
