Description:

Areas of responsibility Coordinate set up, delivery and follow-up (as necessary) of research projects in accordance with research protocol Support feasibility, accurate target setting and planning study milestones Ensure the necessary REC/HRA approvals and other regulatory approvals (e.g. MHRA, GTAC) are in place Work with the Deputy Director and Research Manager to promote commercial research at SHSC Work with the Research Manager to identify requirements for confirming capability and capacity to deliver Advise and support investigators in completion of the Research Ethics Committee (REC)/HRA form enabling them to submit to the relevant REC prior to commencement and ensuring updates and amendments are reported in a timely fashion; To identify potential participants for NIHR adopted studies according to specific protocols and guidelines, and to assist staff in providing information so that service users may make informed decisions about their participation. To provide verbal and written information and support to research participants and their carers for the duration of their involvement in the research project, and to assist participants with the completion of questionnaires as necessary including informed consent. To liaise with clinical and management staff across all Trust services to encourage and support their active involvement in research.
To attend multidisciplinary team meetings regularly to identify appropriate mental health and social care services from which service users and carers might be invited to take part in research studies adopted by the NIHR. Identify areas of low patient recruitment and identify mechanisms for improving. Provide advice and support to Principle Investigators and Research Support staff including support for development of grant submissions, study design and study documentation Ensure recruitment is recorded on EDGE (local portfolio management system) to ensure accuracy of data and monitor performance against targets; Provide written reports on performance management and updates in research delivery as requested by the Deputy Director and Director of Research To contribute to the development of policies and SOPs alongside the Research Manager. To work at all times according to Good Clinical Practice, Research Governance and Trust guidelines.
Support the development of the Trust Research Champion Network to increase engagement with clinical services and participation in research activities Raise awareness of research across the Trust to promote a research culture Contribute to the RDU website, newsletter and other promotional activities. Attend local and regional meeting, to represent the RDU i.e. Team meetings, LCRN meetings and study specific meetings Support the Deputy Director of Research in working with local Universities to develop and submit applications for grant funding. Service User Involvement Promote service user involvement in research and research development Support the development of patient and public involvement groups and Patient Research Ambassadors.
Service Development The post holder will be responsible for keeping abreast of local, national and international developments that may impact on the post and implement as appropriate. The post-holder will be responsible for identifying own professional development needs, and meeting these through self-directed learning and attendance of workshops, conferences and courses. Support the Research Director and Deputy Director with any service developments / new initiatives as appropriate. Human Resources Management Responsibilities Post holder will have line management responsibility for staff within the Research delivery team including; Research Nurses/AHPs, Clinical Studies officers and study specific staff.
Provide regular supervision of all line managed staff and undertake annual PDR as per Trust policy Support recruitment of additional team members to the delivery team as necessary Be responsible for the induction of new staff members in the delivery tea
