OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Provide training, guidance and consultation to users of a Multiple Collector Inductively Couple Plasma Mass Spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS) in the Pratt School of Engineering’s Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility (SMIF). Manage and operate an Elemental Analyze r - Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (EA-IRMS) in the Michael Kipp lab of the Nicholas School of the Environment.

EXPERIENCE

Work requires four years of related experience such as an Engineer sufficient to acquire competency in the application of knowledge in the related Engineering field. A master’s degree in an engineering science or a related natural science may offset two years of experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/TRAINING

Work requires scientific and technical experience in mass spectrometry techniques. Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in a related science field (analytical chemistry, isotope geochemistry), with particular training or experience in mass spectrometry.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Four years of experience with mass spectrometry is preferred, and a relevant advanced degree can be counted toward the experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of mass spectrometry required. The ability to communicate effectively and work with and train students, faculty, and co-workers is important.

EDUCATION

Work requires a thorough knowledge of the principles of engineering and related natural sciences acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree program in an Engineering science or a related natural science such as Physics or Chemistry. Due to professional exemption, equivalent experience cannot be substituted for bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE
