The Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (ISCBRM) in the School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated, hardworking and professional Research Development Strategist (Academic Program Professional 2) to write and/or edit complex content for team science research grant applications. The Research Development Strategist will be a key partner in advancing the ISCBRM’s robust research enterprise and increasing collaboration and will work in partnership with the Institute Director and Research Program Leaders. This position will report to the Director of Finance and Administration. The Research Development Strategist will possess the ability to work independently, and be capable of executing decisions with limited supervision and sometimes limited information. The successful candidate will possess and demonstrate a positive outlook and maintain a service-focused mindset. They will have excellent organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; and a commitment to the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The incumbent will join a thriving community of collaborative Research Development Professionals at Stanford dedicated to helping Stanford affiliates at all levels secure funding for their innovative research.
The ISCBRM research program is internationally renowned and is funded by multiple Federal and non-Federal sponsors and donors and includes a large contingent of laboratory staff, post-docs, graduate students and other highly trained professionals. Therefore, the successful candidate will need to possess the ability to connect with a diverse population of individuals who are socioeconomically and educationally disadvantaged, disabled, or, under-represented minorities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated expertise in writing and providing strategic research development support for NIH and CIRM major research grant applications.
  • Highly organized, analytical, proactive, and deadline-oriented.
  • Experience developing proposal budgets.
  • Experience with graphics editor programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or BioRender; reference management software programs such as Zotero and/or EndNote; and project management programs such as Airtable and/or Smartsheet.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
  • Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and manage research programs by conducting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program, assigning resources and making program improvement recommendations that impact policies and programs.
    • Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.
    • Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
    • Teach and/or assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Develop curriculum. Develop curriculum-rating survey, detailed feedback on courses and make recommendations for preliminary overview and changes.
    • Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.
    • Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.
    • May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients.
    • Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.
    • Coach and mentor program staff.
