Description:
Classification: Academic Level B
Salary package: $110,162 - $124,903 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Term: Full-time, Continuing (contingent Funded) appointment for up to 4 years
Responsibilities:
This is a key role for an early career academic to lead research into the availability and reliability of Australian weather resources. The successful candidate will take a broad approach to examining weather resources by:
- Establishing robust methodologies to define Australian weather resources.
- Quantifying the distribution of weather resources.
- Examining temporal and spatial variability and Australian weather resources to determine their reliability.
- Applying stakeholder-aligned storyline approaches to describe Australia’s weather resources and what defines their availability and reliability
To excel in this role you will have:
- A PhD in climate science or a related area, such as atmospheric science, oceanography, physics, or renewable resources.
- Significant research experience as evidenced by a record of well-cited publications in peer-reviewed journals, a record of developing and maintaining collaborations and by other measures such as awards, and invitations to present at conferences.
- Experience that is relevant to weather resources in some or all of the following areas: climate data analysis, programming skills, and weather risks/resources analysis. Specific experience in working with industry or government stakeholders, and producing stakeholder-focused research outcomes or briefings would be an advantage but is not essential.
- An ability to supervise high quality PhD/Masters research students.
- Ability to work as part of a team, contributing to team management and meeting deadlines for project elements.
- Excellent communication and written English language skills.
- Ability to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels.
- A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context
