Term: Full-time, Continuing (contingent Funded) appointment for up to 4 years

Responsibilities:

This is a key role for an early career academic to lead research into the availability and reliability of Australian weather resources. The successful candidate will take a broad approach to examining weather resources by:

  • Establishing robust methodologies to define Australian weather resources.
  • Quantifying the distribution of weather resources.

  • Applying stakeholder-aligned storyline approaches to describe Australia’s weather resources and what defines their availability and reliability

To excel in this role you will have:

  • A PhD in climate science or a related area, such as atmospheric science, oceanography, physics, or renewable resources.
  • Significant research experience as evidenced by a record of well-cited publications in peer-reviewed journals, a record of developing and maintaining collaborations and by other measures such as awards, and invitations to present at conferences.
  • Experience that is relevant to weather resources in some or all of the following areas: climate data analysis, programming skills, and weather risks/resources analysis. Specific experience in working with industry or government stakeholders, and producing stakeholder-focused research outcomes or briefings would be an advantage but is not essential.

  • Excellent communication and written English language skills.
  • Ability to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels.
