POSITION OVERVIEW

ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the Research School of Psychology, the ANU Medical School, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the National centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.
The John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) is a leading centre of precision health research in Australia. Researchers have a tradition of excellence in addressing the world’s most pressing health issues, including the genetic mechanisms and basis of disease. Within the JCSMR, the National Centre for Indigenous Genomics is committed to stakeholder-owned and -driven Indigenous genomic studies, and today provides a unique opportunity to explore ca. 700 Indigenous genomes from four communities.
We are seeking a Research Fellow who will develop and lead a research project that explores the functional impact of gene variants on drug metabolism and related toxicities using a panel of the 250 top prescribed drugs in Indigenous communities. There will also be opportunities for student mentorship and supervision, undergraduate education and access to leadership and career development courses and the possibility to present research findings at national and international conferences. Our research group is collaborative, and the researcher will be expected to work with other students, postdocs and senior researchers both within the lab and with external collaborators. We envisage the research fellow to be first author on any publications arising from the work they directly lead in the lab. The role will suit those with independent research leadership career aspirations.

Responsibilities:

  • A statement addressing the selection criteria.
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV) which includes the names and contact details of at least three referees (preferably including a current or previous supervisor). If your CV does not include referees you can complete these online when prompted in the application form.
  • Other documents, if required
